04. Cute Meets

Living in an age where guys are supposed to be hooked in with action flicks such as DieHard and Mission Impossible, am a guy who likes to watch romantic movies. I have a wide collection of rom-coms and people who are interested are welcome to exchange movies with me.

A very sweet movie which I saw recently is ‘Holiday’. Apart from a wonderful cast and a neat screenplay it has an extremely soothing background score. One of the characters in the movie is a screen writer and he explains about a feature called ‘Cute meet’ used in most of the movies. It’s nothing but cute and sweet incidents which lead to the first meeting of the lead pair in the movie.

Let me tell you an example to explain this. Most of you would have seen the movie ‘Kushi’. If am not mistaken it came in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and so most of the readers of this blog can relate to it. The hero goes to a temple along with friends. His attention was captured by a physically challenged little girl lighting a candle as a prayer, who then leaves. He sees that the candle is about to be blown off by the wind and runs to hold his hands on either side of the flame. Just as he holds his hands to protect the flame, he finds another pair of hands trying to do the same for the candle. He looks up to find the female lead. Their eyes meet and there starts a back ground score which would be repeated time and again in the movie whenever the lead pair meet.

This event described above is called a ‘Cute meet’. There are a number of such events that have happened in our movies, and also in most of our lives. It may not be with a love interest, but a friend, a very good professor, or a caring colleague. All of us would have had a cute meet one way or other. 2. Harry meets Sally (later used in movies like Dil Chahta Hai)

3. Run (Madhavan in Tamil and Abishek in Hindi) A friend of mine likes this very much cos he says that it actually happened to him

4.Superman where superman catches the leading lady fall from height and says “Caught you” . She says “Who’s catching YOU” and faints.

5. Bommarillu (Santosh Subramaniam)

6. MI-2 (may not be cute, but so hot …)

7. Windstruck ( a sweet Korean which must have inspire1. d 7G …)

8. Alaipayuthe (Saathiya), my favourite

9. Pasanga (The movie is supposed to be about kids. But the love sequence in general is witty and is one thing that made me sit through the movie)
